False alarm charges in SA
How false alarm charges work
South Australia has two authorities — MFS (metropolitan) and CFS (regional) — with different fee structures. MFS publishes a specific "Codes for Alarm Charging" schedule that differentiates between chargeable and non-chargeable activation types. Waivers must be submitted within 30 days of the invoice.
When charges don't apply
Fee details: MFS: $471 per attendance. CFS: $645 per attendance (outside MFS district)
New alarm connections get a 3-month grace period. If MFS resets an alarm and it reactivates within 24 hours (weekday) or 48–54 hours (weekend), there is generally no additional charge.
Waiver criteria
- Alarm code falls into non-chargeable category per MFS schedule
- New installation within 3-month grace period
- Reactivation within the 24/48-hour reset window
- Circumstances beyond the owner's control
